The Hate U Give

Intergenerational Book Read & Movie Watch

The WPC Christian Formation Team invites you to read The Hate U Give, a novel by Angie Thomas, and/or watch the film of the same name. This remarkable, well-written story of courage, trial, injustice, faith, hope, family love, and tragedy touches upon all the themes that challenge so many everyday issues: racism, police brutality, self-identity, love and inequality. (Parents, this book is rated for 13 and above by Common Sense Media. Please visit their website to decide if you would like your child to read the book.)

On the evening of Sunday, July 26, we will host a follow-up program for a chance to learn, grow, discuss and share together. Details on location (zoom or in person) will be forthcoming closer to the date.

Books can be purchased through a variety of online stores, including Harambee, Sankofa, Busboys and Poets, and Politics & Prose. Many of these are minority-owned local bookstores who may be struggling during Covid-19. The movie is available for rent on many digital platforms, including Google Play, Apple TV, Amazon, and YouTube.

Please register below by Sunday, July 19 to let us know you are reading and/or watching along with us! We look forward to sharing our thoughts, concerns, actions and prayers with you all. For late registration, contact Patty Chamberlain.
